Your photos inspired me to retrieve Wesley’s old sled from the homestead (before mom sold it) so I could fasten a bow and set it out front as part of my winter decorating. 🙂

A cherished memory related to this sled: I’d gotten this for Wes when he was about 7 or 8 years old. Shortly after Christmas we had one of those lush and lovely snow falls, where the temps were mild and there was no wind. The two of us bundled up and trudged to the top of the hill overlooking Dead Man’s Lake in Pilot Knob State Park. We were so excited to take her out on her maiden run! It was so beautiful that day and I can still clearly recall how calm and serene it was, just Wesley and me out to enjoy some winter fun.

At the overlook, we dropped the sled, ready to hop on and take her for a spin. The rails of the sled plummeted to the bottom of several inches of light, powdery snow. We weren’t going anywhere! That kind of snow requires a saucer. Sleds with rails need hard, compacted surfaces in order to fly!!

We still laugh about that to this day. Always makes me smile. 🙂
